Fire Risk (Hot Weather) Guidance
As we are now in a period of extreme high temperatures and exceptional fire risk until Tuesday (Fsi - Met Office), UK environmental regulators have asked us to raise the importance of operators being vigilant regarding the potential risk of fire from sites and need for operators to comply with monitoring requirements within their permits. This is as well as encouraging good house-keeping and practices around storage of waste, flammable materials and potential equipment failure.
The Environment Agency has also pointed towards existing relevant guidance:
- See UKHSA Heat-health alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency
- Sector specific guidance: Technical guidance for regulated industry sectors: environmental permitting
- Guidance for operators Making a fire prevention plan where they are storing combustible wastes at sites where they have a permit
- Guidance for sectors when completing an Adapting to climate change risk assessment for an environmental permit
